Dynamic BathWay

Porto  |  2015  |  Project

Dynamic BathWay is a design proposal that would attempt shifting existing promenade on the new walking path with intetion of bringing activities closer to water and further into the water. Current walkway is elevated, shielded and separated by the big defensive wall which severily limits water conntected activities.

Ambition is to bring river closer to users, hence newly created DBW promenade will have its primary function as a promenade, giving the users joy of a simple walk by the river and also a bit more: floating platforms will give possibility to experience tidal river streams and to interact with the Douro river by personal preference. This walkawy path could also be observed as the spatial divider, between the river and the inner parth of the structure with the closed water stream housing various activities.

Finally, DBW promenade is the natural extension of the Cais de Ribeira connecting it with the created pivot point on the Eiffel avenue where people are gathered from, or directed to the Calçada das Carquejeiras.

In conclusion, aiming to retain constant connection with the water ephemeral piers and paths were designed, made as floating platforms. The restaurant, changing rooms and spa are articulated within the wall border with the viewpoint towards the river formed above.
